For Immediate Release
September 3, 2010

Labor Day is September 6th. It began as a celebration of the labor movement in America, then was voted as a National Holiday in honor of workers by Congress on June 28, 1894. Now it’s just another holiday celebrating the end of summer.
In the early days, America’s labor force enabled this country’s citizens to achieve the highest standards of living and to produce the greatest production of goods and services the world has ever known. Within 200 years, America’s labor force had created something here in America, that Europeans weren’t able to enjoy – the American Dream. Great American presidents knew that free markets and capitalism worked best when government stayed out of the way.
Today, thanks to Mr. Obama and members of Congress like Barney Frank, our free market system is dying. Burdened with high taxation and suffocating regulation, our successful capitalist model is purposely being destroyed by the Obama administration with the help of Congressmen like Barney Frank through the systematic elimination of the traditional ideals of individualism, hard work, opportunity and success.
Today, Congressmen like Barney Frank see the laborer not as an individual with hopes and dreams for a better life for themselves and their children, but as a vote in exchange for empty promises that will keep him employed on the taxpayers’ dime. Mr. Obama and socialist cronies like Barney Frank offer collectivism in place of individualism, and socialism in place of capitalism. The American worker deserves better than this, and if you send me to Congress, I pledge that I will fight for smaller government by putting forth initiatives to cut the chains that shackle the backbone of our American economy - small businesses. I will work for smaller, more efficient government by offering legislation to cut, not trim, useless and redundant departments and programs, and I won’t give in to the go-along-to-get-along mentality we’ve seen so much of from progressive Republicans in Congress. Go to my website at www.sholleyforcongress.us and read my Pledge to the People. Those who know me, know my word is my bond.
The party’s over for career politicians, and it’s time to get our affairs in order so that the American people can be proud once again to lead the world in standards of living and production of goods and services. The American work ethic is not dead; it’s just been beaten up by bureaucrats like Barney Frank.
It is appropriate, therefore, that we pay tribute on Labor Day, not to the labor unions or to the labor bosses, but to the people who have made this nation great – the American worker.

Earl Sholley
Republican Candidate, MA 4th Congressional District

August 18, 2010

A funny thing happened on the way to the new Health Care bill. Remember when President Obama signed that Executive Order for Bart Stupak promising no federal funds would be dispersed for abortion in order to get the votes of 14 Democrats who claimed to be pro-life? Stupak became a hero, didn’t he? Remember how Sarah Palin was savaged by the president and his media for claiming that the Health Care bill had sections in it which would lead to Death Panels?

Before the ink was dry on the president’s Executive Order, $160 million was given to the state of Pennsylvania to pay for mandated high risk insurance pools geared to cover all “legal” abortions. Within days another $37 million went to the state of New Mexico for the enrollment of individuals for benefits to be received beginning in August and including an elective for abortion services once a deductable was paid.

Page 53 of Maryland’s Health Insurance Program’s “2010 Plan Year Certificate of Coverage” indicates the use of federal funds for abortion under “Maternity Services”.

Obama’s Pre-existing Conditions scam in the Health Care bill is being directly administered in 21 states across the country to the tune of $5 billion. Another 29 states and D.C. will administer PCIPs through their own state programs.

The pro-life community has been vigilant and the recent outcry by the National Right to Life organizations throughout the country has shined a beacon of light on ObamaCare, leaving the HHS secretary scrambling for excuses.

President Obama also promised the American people that they would “maintain their right to a variety of health choices”. In the same breath, he appointed Donald Berwick – the man who stated in a public forum that “healthcare is by definition redistributional” – to head Medicare & Medicaid.

The UK Telegraph recently discovered that the FDA advisory Board has dropped its endorsement of the drug Avastin which is used to treat colon cancer and advanced breast cancer citing “cost effectiveness” for their decision.

When healthcare is restricted or rationed by government bureaucracies, people die. Once the approval of a drug is revoked, insurance companies stop paying for it. When a government bureaucracy becomes the decision-maker in what costs insurance companies are allowed to incur to save your life, these government bureaucracies indeed become “Death Panels”.

It’s long past time for Americans to hear the truth about ObamaCare and the atrocious Health Care bill that was rammed down the throat of the American people who never asked for it, don’t want it, and are determined to vote come November for candidates who promise to repeal it!

I am that candidate.

I ask for your vote on Primary Day, September 14th. As your elected representative of the 4th Congressional District of Massachusetts, I will bring your concerns to Washington.

Earl Sholley

For Immediate Release

Norfolk, MA – May 2, 2010 -The recent regulations imposed by Jane Lubchenco, the former board member of the Environmental Defense Fund and President Barack Obama’s choice to head NOAA, further restricts the livelihood of commercial fishermen in New England. The jack-boot of government regulations already affects the local fishing industry, and they’re already hurting from catch limits, high taxes, high insurance premiums and other related costs. These are basically middle class families carrying on a tradition that is being systematically eliminated through government over-regulation.This regulation will have disastrous effects, as many fishermen will be forced out of business. This is a death blow to the family fisherman in the 4th Congressional District and throughout Massachusetts. The only beneficiaries of these regulations will be large foreign and domestic corporations.

The new fishing regulations fly in the face of traditional American work ethics that include self reliance, independence and opportunity which lead to prosperity. These destructive regulations make no sense, especially during period of recession, where some areas of the Southcoast like New Bedford, are experiencing an unemployment rate of almost 20 percent. This is more evidence that the current administration and Congress are out-of-touch with the average working man.

Earl Sholley, candidate for Congress in the 4th Congressional District is a strong advocate for the family fisherman, and has spoken out on this vital issue which deals directly with the Southcoast fishing industry. He believes that though Congressman Barney Frank talks a good game when it comes to helping fishermen, actions speak louder than words. The fisherman need action now! Remind Congressman Frank that the fishermen should be allowed to control their own industry. The first maxim of law is that it should do no harm. Janet Lucbencheno should be fired immediately, and these harmful regulations should be reversed. We don’t need and don’t want large corporations or the government running the fishing industry. Save the family fishermen!

Massachusetts 4th District Candidate, Earl Sholley, Announces Campaign Kickoff 2010

For Immediate Release

Massachusetts 4th District Candidate, Earl Sholley, Announces Campaign Kickoff 2010

The Sholley for Congress Committee announced a two-week “Campaign Kickoff 2010″, on March 29th. Earl Sholley, a conservative candidate running against Barney Frank in the Massachusetts 4thDistrict, will spend the next two weeks appearing on both local and national radio, and television programs, in addition to speaking engagements throughout the 4th district. The Kickoff will culminate with a celebration event on Friday, April 9th in New Bedford, Massachusetts.

Norfolk, MA, March 29th, 2010 – Earl Sholley, a staunch fiscal conservative for the Massachusetts 4th Congressional District will begin his Campaign Kickoff 2010 beginning today. He is running for the U.S. Congress against incumbent Democrat, Barney Frank. Sholley has worked as a community activist, specifically in the areas of race relations and legal reform. He has lobbied extensively for budget transparency and better use of tax dollars & court reform and judicial accountability. Earl has served as a delegate to both the state and national Republican conventions. He holds a BS in History from the University of Scranton, a BS in Plant and Soil Sciences from the University of Massachusetts, and has studied at the University of Madrid, Spain on the Georgetown University Junior Year Abroad Program. Earl is a small businessman.

Sholley believes that the first order of business should be to balance the budget and downsize the federal bureaucracy. “The first order of business should have been to get our financial house in order. That also means fixing Medicare before even attempting Health Care Reform. The American People want real reform, not a radical transformation of our current system. The bribery, bullying, and backroom deals were a disgrace. Shame on those who voted for it. The American people do not want it, do not need it, and cannot afford it. Government run health care is a prescription for disaster.”

Sholley understands the needs of the 4th district, which has one of the highest unemployment rates in the Bay State. “Barney Frank has failed on job creation, the banks, and affordable housing ” Sholley stated. “It is time to fire him. The majority party continues to spend irresponsibly, ignoring the will and the needs of the People, and they are leaving a legacy of debt for future generations. We can and must restore fiscal sanity and limited government in November.”

Earl Sholley will be a guest on several local and national television and radio programs in the following two weeks. The Campaign Kickoff 2010 will end with a celebration event on April 9, 2010 from 7 to 10 PM at the Gallery X in New Bedford. The event will showcase and support Massachusetts South Coast businesses. Attendees will sample some of the 4th Districts local wine and cheese at the upscale gallery while enjoying musical entertainment and invigorating conversation in the number one fishing port in America, New Bedford, Massachusetts.

By PETER J. WALLISON

On Christmas Eve, when most Americans’ minds were on other things, the Treasury Department announced that it was removing the $400 billion cap from what the administration believes will be necessary to keep Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac solvent. This action confirms that the decade-long congressional failure to more closely regulate these two government-sponsored enterprises (GSEs) will rank for U.S. taxpayers as one of the worst policy disasters in our history.

Fannie and Freddie’s congressional sponsors—some of whom are now leading the administration’s effort to “reform” the financial system—have a lot to answer for. Rep. Barney Frank (D., Mass.), chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, sponsored legislation adopted in 2008 that established a new regulatory structure for the GSEs. But by then it was far too late. The GSEs had begun buying risky loans in 1993 to meet the “affordable housing” requirements established under congressional direction by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Most of the damage was done from 2005 through 2007, when Fannie and Freddie were binging on risky mortgages. Back then, Mr. Frank was the bartender, denying that there was any cause for concern, and claiming that he wanted to “roll the dice” on subsidized housing support. Read more here

On December 3, 2009 Earl Sholley paid a visit to the Veterans Transition House in New Bedford, and also to the Veterans Association of Bristol County in Fall River. Earl presented each Veterans organization with a check and non-perishable food items for their food banks. The money that was presented to each organization was raised from the 4th District Bike Tour that was held in October. The non-perishable food items were collected at our Dinner Dance Fundraiser that was held in Fall River last month. A big thank you to everyone that made monetary and food donations. Helping our local Veterans is something we all should do during the Holiday Season, and throughout the year.
