President Barack Obama gave his first State of the Union Address tonight. It was well received by the Democratic Majority, but I suspect the People took it with a grain of salt. It reminded me of a response by Governor Ronald Reagan when he was asked by a student what grade he would give the new President Jimmy Carter after his first year in office. Reagan responded: “Long on style and short on substance.” That summed it up for me and probably many others who listened to the address tonight.
The President said fixing the financial system, jobs and the recovery are his first priority. He maintains that he didn’t cause the problems, but he intends to fix them. I believe that government spending is not a stimulus to the economy but a drag on the economy. Jobs are number one, but we must balance the budget, reduce the size of government, and give people real tax relief. Then the economy will grow.
He talked about Energy next including nuclear power, offshore oil drilling, and biofuels, but his real purpose was Cap and Trade without actually saying it. Then it was off to exporting more goods, but because of government policies we are exporting jobs. Investing in Education was the next priority, but I want to know where the money is going to come from. He still wants to help the middle class by passing Government Health Care so we can save a trillion dollars. Translation: rationing for the middle class and our seniors.
President Obama finally got to National Security where he said we have made a big investment, and we will bring the troops home. I wonder if anyone feels safer after the Fort Hood Massacre, the Christmas Bomber, and the prosecution of our brave Navy Seals? Then at the end, he finally showed his true colors when he revealed some of his social agenda - crackdown on discrimination, hate crimes legislation, repeal of don’t ask-don’t tell, equal pay, and securing our borders. I am very happy to hear that the President will be working hard to control our borders.
The People have their own priorities Mr. President, and they are tired of you saying one thing and doing quite another. They have a huge case of buyer’s remorse and they are going to remind you in November that Americans believe in limited government, fiscal responsibility, liberty, equal opportunity, and prosperity.
They want you to balance the budget, keep Americans safe, and really do something about illegal immigration. They want less government, fewer taxes, and true representatives of the People in the Congress. They want term limits. They want you to reform health care, not radically transform it into another entitlement program. They want you to fix Medicare first, and get our financial house in order before you tackle health care reform.
The People want their country back. They want you to fire Napolitano, Holder, Geitner, Dr. Ration, and most of your Czars to restore some credibility to your administration. They want you to adhere to the Constitution, preserve the Republic, and get down on your knees and pray to the Great Legislator of the Universe.
Americans want you to remove the terrorists from a civil court, and return them to the military tribunal where they belong. They are enemy combatants, Mr President, and they want to kill Americans. Enough of political correctness and the nonsense of profiling. This is serious business, and keeping Americans safe is one of your most important and legitimate duties. Americans yearn for real common sense.
The President talked about working together and bipartisanship. He reminded us once again that he is for change that people can believe in. Yet he chastized both parties and even the Supreme Court for its recent decision regarding the campaign financing laws. He didn’t mention the billion dollars that he spent to become President.
The People want you to support Israel which is our friend and the only democracy in the middle east.
They want you to stop talking about affirmative action, quotas, ending discrimination, hate crimes, equal pay, and your social engineering of the military and the country. Americans do not believe in special rights, too big to fail, and their government choosing winners and losers. The American People believe in fair play and decency. Our rights do not come from government Mr. President. Our inalienable rights come from God.
Most of all, Americans want to leave a better legacy to our children. Big Government has been a dismal failure, and the restoration of limited government is the only solution.
The People are reasserting control President Obama. Abraham Lincoln said that you cannot fool all of the people all of the time. The People are tired of your rhetoric, false hope, and your seemingly disdain for this great nation. Americans are taking back their country. It started in Virginia and New Jersey. It spread to Massachusetts on January 19th with the election of Scott Brown. The People will lead, and the leaders will have to follow. God bless America! It will become a tidal wave on November 2, 2010 when the People reject your progressive agenda. “We hold these truths to be self evident . . . that governments are instituted among men by the consent of the governed, that when any government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the People to alter or abolish it . . . . Mr. President, with all due respect, you and your congressional majority are about as popular as a root canal.
